Vaccinations help protect children and adults from serious diseases.
The Hopkins County Health Department offers immunization services to keep families healthy and prevent the spread of preventable illnesses.
Understanding Immunizations
Why Immunizations Matter
Every parent wants to protect their child. It’s why doctors and researchers have worked so hard to create protections and a reasonable immunization schedule that will put an end to severe or deadly diseases. As your local health department, our mission is to help local families take control of their own health and prevent diseases from impacting on their family.
Preventing Disease in Our Community
Sadly, tens of thousands of Americans get sick from preventable diseases every year. When it’s preventable, there’s no need to put yourself, your child or your community at risk.
Where to Get Immunizations
Most immunizations, including the annual flu shot, can be administered at:
- our main clinic
- one of our satellite clinics
Immunization Records & Reminders
We work to ensure every local child is immunized. This means we’re keeping your immunization records and sending you reminders when your child’s next dose is due. If you’re not sure your family’s immunizations are on track, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) provides a complete list of vaccines with the recommended ages.
Vaccines During Pregnancy
Even if you’re pregnant the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends you get immunized to protect yourself and your baby. By getting the flu and whooping cough vaccines you’re helping strengthen your baby’s immune system even after birth.
Immunizations for Adults
Remember, this is a preventive measure to keep your family healthy from birth to adulthood. You never outgrow the need for vaccines. The specific immunizations you need as an adult are determined by factors such as your age, lifestyle, high-risk conditions, type and locations of travel, and previous immunizations.
Throughout your adult life, you need immunizations to obtain and maintain protection against:
Flu
Tetanus
Diphtheria
Pneumococcal
Shingles
Pertussis
HPV, etc.
