Understanding Family Planning
Services are charged on a sliding-fee scale based on your income. This means that you pay an amount based on your income and family size. Even if you have health insurance, you can possibly save on out-of-pocket expenses by coming to the Hopkins County Health Department (HCHD)!
Counseling, pregnancy testing, birth control and education are all services provided confidentially by the HCHD.
Benefits of Planning
- Having children when you want them
- Being able to financially prepare for your children
- Being healthier before and during pregnancy
- Not worrying about an unwanted pregnancy
- Making your own decisions about birth control
Confidential Services
Confidential family planning services are available for women, men, and teens at HCHD. Nurse practitioners and nurses will work with you to provide education about family planning methods and help you determine which method best fits your lifestyle.
HCHD encourages teens to talk to their parents about their health. This includes sexual health and STIs. Although this may be uncomfortable or awkward, parents can provide support and understanding to help you deal with any issues you are experiencing.
Teens, however, can come to HCHD for STI/HIV Testing, STI Treatment, and Family Planning services without their parent or guardian. Your information will be kept confidential. We will only contact you by the methods you specify. So, if you don’t want the clinic to call your home or mail letters to your house, please let us know the best way to contact you. We will not discuss your health information with anyone without your approval.
Please keep in mind, however, that we have a responsibility as health professionals to let you know the results of any tests that we provide. You must follow-up or we will try to contact you if the situation warrants.
If you or a friend has experienced suicidal thoughts, remember you are not alone, even if it feels like it right now. If a friend has confided in you, don’t promise to keep it a secret. Tell him or her you can help, but you need to involve other people, then immediately go to a trusted adult. At any time you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 988 (all calls are confidential).
